The county welcomes public comments to the Montgomery County Facebook page and/or Twitter stream. The purpose of the county's presence on Facebook and/or Twitter is to present matters of public interest in Montgomery County for its residents, businesses and visitors. We encourage you to submit your questions, comments and concerns, but please note this is a moderated online discussion site and not a public forum.

Once posted, Montgomery County reserves the right to delete comments that contain:

• profane language or content;
• information that may tend to compromise the safety or security of the public or public systems; and/or
• content that promotes, fosters, or perpetuates discrimination against protected classes..

Further, Montgomery County reserves the right to delete any comments that:

• include spam or links to other sites;
• solicitations of commerce or advertisements including promotion or endorsement;
• advocate illegal activity;
• promote particular services, products, political organizations and/or candidates; and/or
• infringe on copyrights or trademarks.

While visiting County social media sites, you participate at your own risk, taking personal responsibility for your comments, your username and any information provided. By commenting or posting, you specifically agree to hold Montgomery County, its employees and officers harmless from any liability associated with your comment or post.

The county’s social media platforms are administered by designated staff. When one of the county’s social media administrators suspects a violation of the Montgomery County Social Media Policy, he or she will contact the Public Relations & Community Engagement Office, which will review and authorize removal of a comment when appropriate.

"Today," Montgomery County's Podcast, features brief summaries of Board of Supervisors meetings as well as conversations with county staff about various topics that may impact residents. Topics range from tips and reminders from Emergency Services to Parks and Recreation offerings to guidance from Animal Control about responsible pet ownership.

Montgomery County-Christiansburg Channels 190 broadcast public meetings and government services videos and information.

What information is collected?
For each visitor, the County collects the following information: the Internet Protocol (IP) address, type of browser used, operating system, date and time of the visit, and the addresses of the pages on this web site to which you link during a visit to the County's web site.

How is the collected information used?
The County uses a third party service to analyze web site activity, track the number of visits and identify the most popular pages. This helps us to improve content and the value of materials available on this web site. We cannot and do not associate any of this information with individual persons, distribute this information, or use it in any manner other than for statistical analysis in improving our site to better serve our visitors.

What if I email the County?
Any e-mail or other correspondence sent to a member of the Board of Supervisors, or any other public official and/or employee of the County in the transaction of public business is considered a public record, and such records are subject to the Virginia Freedom of Information Act. This means that Virginia law generally requires the County to provide a copy of any such e-mail, upon request, for inspection and copying to any citizen of the Commonwealth or to any member of the news media unless such record is specifically exempted by the Act.

Information provided to the County to subscribe to mailing lists or receive other email notices, including a person’s email address, may be accessed by the public under certain circumstances.
