Commonwealth's Attorney 

The Commonwealth's Attorney prosecutes all felonies and certain misdemeanors and traffic offenses, and advises citizens, law enforcement agencies and magistrates regarding interpretation of criminal law. The office also consists of assistant commonwealth’s attorneys and support staff.

The office does not handle civil cases such as divorces, landlord/tenant disputes, estates, wills and real estate.

The Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office works with the Sheriff’s Office and surrounding police departments, the Women’s Resource Center, VASAP and New River Valley Community Corrections and Pretrial Services. The Victim-Witness Program is located in the office.
