Virginia Tech’s Appalachian Studies and other entities partnered to locate family burials and cemeteries, and visit sites when practicable. Montgomery County's participation was primarily to insure compliance with the county’s Code pertaining to subdivisions.
Historical information about family burials and cemeteries to assist in genealogical research may be found at the iGIS map portal. Many of the family burials and cemeteries can be found by searching family name or location.
A special cemetery atlas has been prepared for the
Montgomery-Floyd Regional Library. The cemetery atlas may be found in the libraries' genealogical sections.
