Wildfire in Shawsville


Update April 14 at 9:40 a.m. The Virginia Department of Forestry reports 100 percent fire containment is anticipated later today. The Virginia Department of Forestry continues to work with local firefighter crews on the wildfire located in the 4300 block of Fishers View Road in Shawsville. The Virginia Department of Forestry also reports the fire has grown to 250 acres; however, it is at 90 percent containment as of Sunday morning. In addition, no homes or structures have been lost as of Sunday morning. 

Update April 13 at 8:50 p.m. 
The Virginia Department of Forestry and local crews remain on the scene. Please continue to avoid the Fishers View Road area in Shawsville. Many thanks to the agencies responding to this wildfire in our community: Elliston; Christiansburg; Blacksburg; Riner; Floyd; and Pulaski. 

Update: April 13 at 7 p.m. At this time, the fire is moving away from residences. The Virginia Department of Forestry and local first responders are on the scene. No additional evacuations are anticipated at this time.

On Saturday, April 13, citizens located in the 4300 Block of Fishers View Road in Shawsville, Va., are being urged to evacuate the area due to a wildfire. As of 5 p.m., approximately 80 acres in the vicinity have been impacted by the wildfire.
